Perhaps no other bowler has so indelibly etched her name into the records books for sheer pin fall as has Dorothy Fothergill. She won six USBC Women's Championships titles in a short span from 1970 to 1973. In 1970, she captured a record-tying three Women's Championships titles and established the all-events record of 1964. Her average in 10 Women's Championships was 199. She won back-to-back USBC Queens tournament titles in 1972 and 1973. Her lifetime average for Queens play is 196. A left-hander, Dotty won the BPAA All-Star crown twice, in 1968 and 1969. She also has eight victories in professional play. Bowler of the Year honors came her way in 1968-69. She came out of retirement in 1979 to win the Great and Greatest tournament with Donna Adamek.
