Executive Biographies

KEVIN DORNBERGER - Chief Operating Officer

Kevin Dornberger was named Chief Operating Officer of the United States Bowling Congress in July 2007 after being involved with the sport of bowling for more than 45 years.

He has served in many leadership positions over his career. He was formerly an American Bowling Congress executive vice president, USA Bowling president and administrative director. He was elected President of the World Tenpin Bowling Association in August 2007 and was Federation Internationale des Quilleurs first vice president.

Formerly USBC's General Counsel, he oversaw the organization's legal affairs and as Director of Team USA, he oversaw the program that determines the sport's national team and national amateur champion. He also serves as USBC's liaison to the United States Olympic Committee.

He joined the ABC Board of Directors in 1985 and was elected a vice president in 1995. Active as a volunteer for youth bowling, Dornberger served as a youth coach and later became president of the Sioux Falls YABA local association in 1989.

The former Sioux Falls, S.D. attorney is a top-flight competitor, finishing fifth in the 2000 ABC Senior Masters. He also was a member of the 2001 ABC Tournament team all-events championship team. Along with numerous state and local titles, he has 16 perfect games and four 800 series to his credit. He was inducted into the South Dakota Bowling Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Sioux Falls Hall of Fame in 2000.

 

TOM CLARK - Vice President, Marketing/Communications

As the United States Bowling Congress Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Tom Clark oversees the direction of USBC's public relations, marketing, publishing, tournament media relations and electronic media including bowl.com.

Clark, a native of Syracuse, N.Y., previously was USBC's director of communications from April 2005 until July 2006.

Clark came to USBC Headquarters after a successful career in journalism. From 2000-2005 he was a sports assignment editor for USA Today, the nation's highest-circulated newspaper. At USA Today, Clark directed the golf and tennis coverage, assisted on NBA and NFL coverage and was the lead editor five straight years on the national-award winning USA Today Super Bowl Bonus Section.

Prior to USA Today, Clark worked in the Media General newspaper chain as the executive editor of the Hickory (N.C.) Daily Record from 1999-2000; the managing editor of the Manassas (Va.) Journal Messenger from 1997-1999; and sports editor of the Potomac (Woodbridge, Va.) News from 1995-1997. He was a contributing sports writer for the Syracuse (N.Y.) Herald Journal from 1988-1992.

From 1992-1995, Clark owned and operated the Syracuse Sporting Times, a bi-weekly magazine.

He has won numerous national and state journalism awards including Best Feature Story in 1995 and Best Page Design in 1996 by the Associated Press Sports Editors and the 1998 Virginia Press Association Sweepstakes for best newspaper in its circulation category.

Clark graduated from Buffalo State College in 1992 with a degree in journalism. He bowled collegiate for four years at Buffalo State, winning the east region Association of College Unions International title in 1990 and advancing to the national singles championship in Reno, Nev.

Clark was named Bowler's Journal International magazine's "Person of the Year" in the bowling industry for 2005 for his efforts in bringing publicity to the game.  

Clark wrote a bowling opinion column for usatoday.com from 2000-2002, and has written a monthly bowling opinion column "The Messenger" for Bowlers Journal International magazine and Web site since 2001. He now serves as the executive editor of US Bowler and US Youth Bowler magazines and is a member of the Bowling Writer's Association of America Board of Directors.

Clark resides in Muskego, Wis., with his wife Kelli and two children.


JACK MORDINI - Vice President, Membership/Tournament Services

More than 30 years of grassroots involvement with American Bowling Congress members and volunteers provides Jack Mordini with unique experience and background to his position as United States Bowling Congress Vice President of Membership/Tournament Services.

Mordini, a Milwaukee native, joined ABC shortly after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1970. After starting in ABC’s Membership Services Department, he became Specifications and Certification Assistant Manager in 1973.

In 1977 Mordini transferred to the Rules Department and became manager in 1980. In 1985, he served in the dual role of Rules Manager and Tournament Sanctions Manager.

As Rules Manager, Mordini was responsible for leading the department that provided clarification and interpretation of ABC rules, processed proposed rules to be voted on at ABC’s annual convention and adjudicated disciplinary cases. As Tournament Sanctions Manager he ran a department which provided rules counseling and format approval for more than 10,000 sanctioned tournaments annually. His department also handled tournament protests, disqualifications and appeals.

Mordini was named ABC Group Executive-Technical in 1989 where he assumed responsibility for equipment specifications and testing and lane certification. In 1997 he was elevated to the post of ABC Assistant Executive Director where his primary responsibilities included oversight of the highly-successful ABC Championships Tournament and ABC Masters.

He became United States Bowling Congress COO on Jan. 1, 2005, making him responsible for the day-to-day operations of the three-million-member organization.

Mordini also has been a lifelong enthusiast on the lanes, helping his UW-La Crosse bowling team to a pair of conference titles and a second-place finish in the 1970 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Collegiate Bowling Championships. He rolled a 300 game in the 1996 Wisconsin Bowling Association Tournament.

Mordini and his wife Char have two sons and two daughters.

 

PETE TREDWELL - Vice President, Media

Pete Tredwell, Hamden, Conn., is a two-time Emmy award-winning producer for ESPN and a former collegiate bowler. He was USBC's first director-at-large on the USBC Board of Directors before joining the USBC staff in April 2008.

He was with ESPN for more than 11 years after one year with CBS Sports in New York City, a year in media relations for the University of Florida athletic department in Gainesville, Fla., and a year in a similar position at the University of California-Berkeley. He graduated from Indiana University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in sports marketing and management. He also received a certificate from the Indiana School of Business.

He started for three years and part of a fourth on Indiana University’s bowling team from 1991-95 including the 1994-95 season when the Hoosiers spent most of the season as the No. 1-ranked team in the nation by the Bowling Writers Association of America. He has a 300 high game and 794 high series. He also owns six Junior Bowlers Tour titles after joining his first league at age 9.

Tredwell and his wife Kathy have one daughter, Caroline.
