Pappas wins 27th career regional title

Martinsville, Va. - PBA Hall of Famer George Pappas of Charlotte, N.C. defeated Vince Honeycutt of Buford, GA., 191-184, to win the Professional Bowlers Association South Region Liberty Fair Mall Senior Open presented by Track at Sport Lanes Monday.

The win was Pappas’s 27th career regional title and the third of the season in the South Region. Pappas, who was just named the South Region’s Pat Patterson Award recipient for his contributions to the South Region program, earned $1,500 for the win while Honeycutt earned $800 as the runner-up.

Pappas defeated Danny Weikel of Dallas, N.C., 182-172, and Honeycutt defeated James Miller of Callaway, Va., 218-207, in the semifinal round.

Weikel and Miller each earned $700 as semifinal round losers.

The PBA South Region’s next tournament will be Rocky Mount, N.C., Viper Open June 1-3.
