Tip of the Month: Tournament Preparation
 |
When competing in a bowling tournament, often the lane conditions call for playing a different line on the lane than you normally use. The best way to prepare for playing different lines is to practice. You can play different lines at your home center even though the lane conditions are different than what you’ll encounter at a tournament. |
The practice routine can help prepare you for the various lines that you may need to use.

USBC Team USA Trials Results
David O'Sullivan of Orlando, Fla., and Lynda Barnes of Flower Mound, Texas, topped a field of the nation's top amateur bowlers over four days to earn U.S. Amateur titles Jan. 11 at the 2007 USBC Team USA Trials.
Barnes, a 10-time Team USA member, won her third U.S. Amateur title by shooting 8,816 for 40 games, an average of 220. She also won titles in 1995 and 2005.
O'Sullivan, a two-time All-American at Morehead State University, earned a spot on Team USA for the first time by totaling 8,841 for 40 games, an average of 221 per game.
The top four men and top four women who were not already on Team USA 2007 earned automatic spots on the team. O'Sullivan is joined on the men's side by Rhino Page of Fresno, Calif., Cassidy Schaub of Polk, Ohio, and P.J. Haggerty of Clovis, Calif.

One of the most valuable USBC membership benefits is the opportunity for members to compete in the organization’s national championships, which are two of the world’s largest sporting events.
The USBC Open and Women’s Championships are the highlight of the bowling season for thousands of USBC members. But what makes these events really special is that there is no qualifying required. The Open Championships are available to all adult members and the Women’s Championships are open to all adult female members, regardless of average.
As two of the biggest participatory sporting events in the world, members become part of bowling history just by competing. In addition to vying for national championships, each event offers multi-million-dollar prize funds!

The 2007 USBC Open Championships will be conducted in the one-of-a-kind 78-lane National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., from Feb. 17 to June 30. The entry deadline has been extended to March 30 and spots are still available.
The 2007 USBC Women’s Championships will make its first visit to Charlotte, N.C., from April 12 to July 1. The entry deadline is quickly approaching and prime spots are still available.
The Open Championships has two average divisions — one for bowlers who average 181 and higher and another for bowlers who average 180 and below. The Women’s Championships has five average divisions (130 and under, 131-149, 150-169, 170-189 and 190 and over).
Similar to your local and state tournaments, each event features team, doubles, singles and all-events competition.
