USBC Coaching Tip of the Month: Watch the Ball Reaction

In the modern game, when the ball hooks is as important as how much it hooks. Watch your ball reaction on the lanes to see where the ball begins to move toward the pocket (the break point). Also watch the shape of the line between the release and break point and between the break point and the pocket. Being able to accurately watch your shot requires that you remain in a balanced finish position until the ball hits the pins.

The Difference

USBC Sport Bowling Corner

Sport Bowling Spotlight
- In an interview with USBC Sport Bowling spokesperson Chris Barnes, the Denny's PBA Tour superstar discusses how each of the PBA Experience patterns normally plays and what adjustments bowlers can make to have the best chance of success. For many of you, this will be your first time competing on these conditions. But with some inside insight from Barnes, you'll be better prepared to score on the Viper, Shark, Scorpion, - Chameleon, and Cheetah oil patterns. Read more

High Performance Bowling - There is more to a bowling ball than meets the eye.

A complex relationship exists between a bowling ball's exterior, or shell, and its core. The pure motion of a bowling ball is controlled primarily by the core and shell, components that work together to determine overall ball reaction. The composition of the shell determines the amount of friction between the ball and the lane, while the core's physical or mass properties aid in the rotation of the ball as it rolls down the lane.  Read more

Two Elite Women’s Bowling Events – One City

Woman bowlers haven’t had a pro tour of their own since 2003. But for nine weeks this fall, high-level women’s bowling is back on ESPN!

The U.S. Women’s Open will be held Aug. 13-18 at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., on PBA Experience lane conditions. Sixteen finalists will compete in four taped bracket events that will air on ESPN on Sept. 16, 23, 30 and Oct. 7.

The final four athletes return to Reno for the event’s championship round, with live coverage on ESPN Oct. 14.
Athletes in the U.S. Women’s Open may opt to simultaneously compete in the Professional Bowlers Association Women’s Tour Trials – four events that also will include televised finals on ESPN later this fall.

NBA Superstar Chris Paul New USBC Spokesperson

New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets point guard Chris Paul, one of the rising stars in the National Basketball Association, has reached a three-year agreement to serve as an official spokesperson for USBC.

The 21-year-old Winston-Salem, N.C., native has quickly become one of the most talked about young stars in the NBA after winning the 2005-06 Rookie of the Year Award and helping lead the U.S. Men's National Basketball Team to a bronze medal at the 2006 FIBA World Championships last summer. When not thrilling fans in NBA arenas, Paul can be found crafting his skills in another sport he is passionate about - bowling.
