National Bowling Week is Just Two Weeks Away!
National Bowling Week 2006 is the first in what will be an annual celebration of bowling across the country, beginning with "National Bowling Day" on Aug. 26. The objective of National Bowling Week is to promote bowling awareness, and of course, to have fun.
National Bowling Week will feature contests, bowling clinics, equipment checks, a youth bowling blast-off and more. Check bowl.com for updates.
National bowling essay, art and photography contest winners will be recognized during National Bowling Week. Adult winners will receive cash prizes; youth winners will receive scholarship awards. Winning art, photos and essays will be featured in USBC and BPAA publications.
Visit your local center to experience National Bowling Week. Many of the nearly 6,000 bowling centers nationwide are offering free equipment checks and coaching clinics, among many other activities. |
USBC Women’s Challenge Field
The field of 16 women bowlers has been finalized for the USBC Women's Challenge, which will be taped over two days during National Bowling Week (Aug. 26-Sept. 1) at the Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas.
"Killer 'B' Promotions" is the owner and producer of the Women's Challenge, which is a made-for-TV event. Its unique format, which features an invitation-only field, will be contested on a specially constructed lane and aired on ESPN2 over five consecutive Monday nights beginning Sept. 11.
Bowling stars and USBC spokespeople Diandra Asbaty, Carolyn Dorin-Ballard and Kim Terrell will headline the talented list of players for the unique competition. |

Junior Team USA in Germany for 2006 World Youth Championships

Three-time U.S. Junior Amateur champion Stefanie Nation of Miami, ended her four-year Junior Team USA career with a bronze medal in the girls Masters event of the 2006 World Tenpin Bowling Association World Youth Championships at Bowlingcenter Schillerpark in Berlin, Germany.
The Masters featured the top 16 players in all-events (singles, doubles and team) in the boys and girls divisions competing in a best-of-five, single-elimination match play format. |
USBC Junior Gold and Pepsi Champions Crowned
Jennifer Wright of West Columbia, S.C., and Matthew O'Grady of South Amboy, N.J., were crowned U.S. Junior Amateur champions at the 2006 USBC Junior Gold Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The championships featured nearly 1,450 of the top youth bowlers in the country competing for $80,000 in scholarships, individual titles and berths on Junior Team USA 2007.
At the 2006 Pepsi USBC Youth Championships, also in Fort Lauderdale, four players from across the country earned titles in the single-game, double-elimination match play finals.
The Pepsi Youth Championships is one of the premier international tournaments for youth bowlers. This year's event consisted of nearly 200 athletes from all 50 United States, U.S. military zones, Puerto Rico and Canada competing for a total of $20,000 in scholarships. |
USBC’s National Championships: A Bowling Experience No Bowler Should Miss
One of the most valuable USBC membership benefits is the opportunity for members to compete in the organization’s national championships, which are two of the world’s largest sporting events.
The USBC Open and Women’s Championships are almost Mecca-type experiences for thousands of USBC members. For many it’s the highlight of the bowling season. But what makes these events really special is that there is no qualifying required. The Open Championships are available to all adult members and the Women’s Championships are open to all adult female members, regardless of average.
As two of the biggest participatory sporting events in the world, members become part of bowling history just by competing. In addition to vying for national championships, each event offers multi-million dollar prize funds!
The 2007 USBC Open Championships will be conducted in the one-of-a-kind 78-lane National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., and the 2007 Women’s Championships will make its first visit to Charlotte, N.C.
The Open Championships has two average divisions — one for bowlers who average 181 and higher and another for bowlers who average 180 and below. The Women’s Championships has five average divisions (130 and under, 131-149, 150-169, 170-189 and 190 and over).
Similar to your local and state tournaments, each event features team, doubles, singles and all-events competition.
Be sure to check out your fall edition of US Bowler for entry information on these two great events. You also can visit USBCopen.com or USBCwomenschampionships.com for tournament news and entry information.
