Kingpin Tournament Postponed

The Kingpin Million Dollar Challenge has been postponed until 2006. According to Kingpin spokesperson Dave Woodruff “The recent natural disasters along America's Gulf Coast, which displaced more than one million people, along with surging gas prices and major corporate layoffs, have directly and indirectly impacted the Kingpin Million Dollar Challenge and has left us no other alternative but to postpone the event until 2006.”

"Obviously USBC is disappointed the event is not going forward but we understand the reasons behind the postponement," USBC Chief Operating Officer Jack Mordini said. "USBC initially became involved in this event to protect the interests of our members, and we have received assurances that complete refunds will be offered to bowlers."

USBC Assists Hurricane Victims

USBC has bolstered its Hurricane Katrina relief efforts with the recent donation of new clothing for New Orleans evacuees being housed in Milwaukee.

The donation was among the largest received by the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina victims. More than 3,500 items were donated.

In addition, USBC and the Bowling Proprietor’s Association of America are continuing their efforts to encourage bowling centers and bowlers to donate to the BPAA Foundation for the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

Certification vs. Sanctioning: What’s in a Word?

Recently, you may have noticed a subtle, yet important, change in the verbiage relating to USBC governance and correspondence. The term “certified” has replaced “sanctioned” in all areas outlining USBC standards. In the past, leagues and tournaments were commonly known as being “sanctioned,” while pins, lanes, balls and bowling centers were “certified.”

With a fresh start as one organization, one term – “certified” – is needed to describe the set of rules in place under USBC. The change was made to make the word “certified” synonymous with adherence to USBC specifications and qualifications.
