PERSONAL

Diandra Asbaty, who was born in Oak Lawn, Ill., and grew up in Dyer, Ind., is one of five people elected by fellow athletes to be a board member of the United States Bowling Congress Board of Directors. Named spokesperson of the USBC Youth program in January 2006, Asbaty has been involved with the sport of bowling for nearly 20 years.

Besides being an accomplished bowler at the national and international levels, Asbaty also has established herself as a leader on the national level, serving previously on the USA Bowling International Relations and USA Bowling Coaching committees. A USBC Silver level coach, she became a coach for the American Zone Coaching Program in 2003.

Asbaty, who graduated from the University of Nebraska in 2003 with a Bachelor of Journalism degree in marketing, is a Brunswick Amateur staff representative and ambassador as well as a Turbo 2-N-1 Grips amateur staff international representative. She also pens a monthly column for Bowlers Journal International magazine.

Her husband John is a former bowler at the University of Nebraska.
