About USBC Team USA

USBC ’s commitment to international competition is visible on a global scale. For those who make USBC Team USA, the thrill of representing the United States in international competition can be an experience of a lifetime.

USBC Team USA 2008 will consist of a minimum 12 men and 12 women:

  • Four men (David Haynes, Bill Hoffman, David O'Sullivan and Rhino Page) and four women (Lynda Barnes, Shannon O'Keefe, Tennelle Milligan and Shannon Pluhowsky) will be second-year members based upon performance at the 2007 USBC Team USA Trials.
  • An undetermined number of men will be selected by the USBC/PBA Committee from the 2007-08 exempt field of the Denny's Professional Bowlers Association Tour.
  • An undetermined number of women will be selected by the USBC Committee from a pool of players who have either been on Team USA within the past 10 years (since 1998) or are former Professional Women's Bowling Association/Ladies Professional Bowlers Tour members.
  • The top two men and two women finishers in the 2008 USBC Team USA Trials will earn automatic spots on Team USA 2008, while two additional men and two additional women will be selected from the field by the National Selection Committee.

Members of USBC Team USA are among the most visible ambassadors for the sport of bowling. They compete in such events as the Pan American Games, World Tenpin Bowling Association World and American Zone Championships, AMF World Cup and Tournament of the Americas, among others.

About USBC Junior Team USA

For a USBC Youth member (age 22 and under), one of the most prestigious goals to strive for is the opportunity to earn a berth on USBC Junior Team USA . The thrill of representing the United States in international competition can be an experience of a lifetime.

Junior Team USA members are selected based off performance at the USBC Junior Gold Championships, held annually in July. The top six finishers in both the boys and girls divisions earn automatic selections to Junior Team USA for the following calendar year, with two additional at-large berths in each division awarded by the National Selection Committee.

USBC Youth athletes must have a minimum average of 175 for boys and 165 for girls to be eligible to join the USBC Junior Gold program and enter the qualifying events for advancement to the USBC Junior Gold Championships.

Members of USBC Junior Team USA are among the most visible ambassadors and the future stars in the sport of bowling. They compete in such events as the World Tenpin Bowling Association World and American Zone Youth Championships and Tournament of the Americas, among others.

**Starting with Junior Team USA 2010, team members must be 20 years of age or younger as of Jan. 1 due to recent World Tenpin Bowling Association legislation.




David GarberDavid Garber
Team USA High-Performance Director

Garber, a four-time Team USA member, oversees all activities relating to athlete development and performance at all competitive levels of Team USA and Junior Team USA as well as fulfilling United States Olympic Committee obligations.

A USBC Silver level coach for the past 12 years, Garber has served as a regional sales manager with Storm Bowling Products since 1999 and previously served on the USBC Board of Directors, USA Bowling Board of Directors and the Team USA Athletes Advisory Committee.

Garber, who was raised in Bedford, Texas, helped lead Team USA to the team gold medal at the 1993 American Zone Championships in Mexico and won four gold medals at the 1993 Tournament of the Americas, helping him earn Bowlers Journal International Amateur Bowler of the Year honors.

 

Pat Winkels
Team USA Manager

Winkels, or "Momma" as she is affectionately called by players past and present, oversees travel logistics and day-to-day operations within the Team USA program. A USBC Level I certified coach, she earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin and a Master's degree in business administration from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee.

Winkels has served in her current position since 1997. Previously, she was a product sales manager for the Girl Scouts of the USA.
