Coaching Staff

Team USA | Junior Team USA

Team USA

Jeri Edwards
Head coach
Akron, Ohio

A native of Olympia Fields, Ill., Edwards has dedicated more than 20 years to the sport of bowling. The USBC Coaching Gold-level coach served two stints as a Team USA assistant coach – 1991-96 and 2000-03 – and was head coach of Junior Team USA in 2002 and 2003.

Edwards spent five years on the Ladies Professional Bowlers Tour, winning the 1990 Greater Atlanta Open, and was a 1988 Women’s International Bowling Congress Championship Tournament team champion. She competed collegiately at Penn State University, where she earned a degree in marketing, and helped lead Rich Central High School to the 1980 Illinois state championship.

She replaced longtime friend and Team USA head coach Fred Borden, who retired in 2003. From the Borden/Edwards School of Bowling at Stonehedge Place in Akron, Ohio, to co-hosting the “Bowling Rocks” and “Learn the Curve” instructional videos designed for kids and adults, the duo has been at the coaching forefront for years.

Gordon Vadakin
Assistant coach
Wichita, Kan.

Since 1977, Vadakin has served as head coach at Wichita State University – turning the Shockers into the most-recognizable collegiate bowling program in the United States. The USBC Coaching Gold-level coach has guided his men’s and women’s teams to a record seven national championships each, including winning the women’s title in April 2005.

Vadakin, who competed on Team USA in 1983 and 1989, won the all-events gold medal at the 1989 FIQ American Zone Championships and led Team USA to silver medals in team and doubles, helping him being named Bowlers Journal Amateur Bowler of the Year.

Ken Yokobosky
Assistant coach
Lafayette, N.J.

A three-year touring member of the Professional Bowlers Association, Yokobosky has been involved in coaching bowling for nearly 20 years. The USBC Coaching Silver-level coach was a Academic All-American at Caldwell College in New Jersey.

Yokobosky owns the Pro-Image Bowling pro shop located inside Rockaway Lanes in Rockaway, N.J., where he conducts individual and group lessons along with Fred Borden and Jeri Edwards

Junior Team USA

Rod Ross
Head coach
Manteca, Calif.

A native of Pocatello, Idaho, Ross has been coaching for more than 25 years and owns two pro shops in northern California along with one in Idaho. An International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association Charter Member, Ross also is on the IBPSIA board of directors.

His experience as a coach for Junior Team USA and as a USA Bowling Gold level coach earned him the title of Master Instructor for USA Bowling. He also currently coaches Professional Women’s Bowling Association stars Leanne Barrette, Kim Terrell and Dede Davidson.

Ross’ extensive involvement in coaching led him to design and develop BowlersMAP Digital Coaching Software in 1998, which has been marketed by Ebonite in 2003. BowlersMAP is the only computer software developed, planned and programmed specifically for bowlers.

Kim Terrell
Assistant coach
Antioch, Calif.

The 2001 Women’s U.S. Open and 2002 Women’s International Bowling Congress Queens champion has nine titles in her distinguished 17-year professional career. Prior to joining the pro ranks, Terrell established herself in the bowling world as a collegiate bowler at San Jose State University, earning All-America honors twice. Following her collegiate success, the California native represented her country internationally for two seasons as a member of Team USA (1987-88).

Terrell, a USBC Coaching Silver-level certified coach, is a three-time winner of the Robby Award, given to the Professional Women’s Bowling Association player that best exemplifies the most positive image of women in professional bowling, both on the lanes and off. With the WIBC Queens title under her belt, Terrell went on to appear on national television a career-best nine times in 2002.

Teresa Ross
Assistant coach
Manteca, Calif.

Ross, a USBC Coaching Silver-level coach who has been training bowlers for 25 years, recently became certified as a USBC Coaching Level 1 instructor – helping increase the amount of coaches in California.

Ross and her husband, Rod, own Bowlers Connection Inc. pro shops in Pacifica, Calif., and Manteca, Calif.
