Senior Masters Format

All bowlers compete in 15 games of qualifying (three five-game blocks) which consists of the bowlers total accumulated score. After the 15 games of qualifying, the top 63 join the defending champion, who advance to double-elimination match play.

Like the regular Masters, the Senior Masters double-elimination match play format consists of a winners and losers bracket where bowlers compete head to head in three-game matches. The bowler with the highest pinfall total after three games advances to the next round.

If those in the winners bracket continue to win they stay in the winners bracket. A bowler who loses his/her first match gets new life by then moving to the losers bracket. The down side of the losers bracket is that bowlers must compete in more matches than those in the winners bracket because it is in the losers bracket where bowlers are eliminated from the tournament. A bowler is eliminated from competition after a second loss.

For the Senior Masters, double-elimination match play is conducted until a winners bracket and losers bracket finalist is determined. The finalists then compete in a final double-elimination round to determine the champion.
