2008 U.S. Women's Open/PBA Women's Series FAQ’s

What is the format of the U.S. Women's Open?
The 2008 U.S. Women’s Open will follow a similar format as it did in 2007.  Players will compete in four eight-game blocks of qualifying over four days beginning Aug. 1 before the field is cut to the top 16 who will appear on television.

Why should I bowl in the U.S. Women's Open and PBA Women's Tour Trials?
Showcasing the top women bowlers on television is gaining momentum. Women who enter the U.S. Women’s Open are competing for one of the sport's most prestigious titles, qualifying for a tour, and have the opportunity to appear in the TV finals. These events help secure the future of elite women's bowling.

What lane conditions will be used for the U.S. Women's Open?
The U.S. Women’s Open will be conducted on Sport Bowling-compliant lane conditions.

What is the PBA Women's Series and how is it connected with the U.S. Women’s Open?
The PBA Women's Series also returns and will be conducted concurrently with seven Denny's PBA Tour events, up from five events last year. One event will consist of 32 players. Qualifying for the PBA Women’s Series will be determined through the qualifying rounds of the U.S. Women’s Open, as was done last year.

How are the players for the PBA Women's Series determined through the U.S. Women's Open?
For those who decide to enter both the U.S. Women’s Open and PBA Women's Tour Trials, the qualifying portion of the U.S. Women’s Open serves a dual function. Qualifying for the U.S. Women's Open also determines who qualifies for the PBA Women's Series. The top 16 scorers from the U.S. Women's Open (who pay the additional $750 Women's Series entry fee) are eligible to compete in the PBA Women's Series.

Will I be required to become a PBA member to compete in the PBA Women's Series?
This year participants will be required to become PBA members.

How do I enter the U.S. Women's Open and PBA Women's Tour Trials?
The entry fee for the U.S. Women's Open is $250 and the PBA Women's Tour Trials entry fee is $750.  You can register for the 2008 U.S. Women’s Open online , download a registration form from the Web site or call (800) 514 – 2695, ext. 3173.

Information on the format will be available online soon. Please continue to check the Web site.

What are the requirements to enter?
Any USBC adult woman member holding a  2007-2008 USBC membership card is eligible to enter.

What is the average requirement?
There is no average requirement for these scratch events.

Can you enter the U.S. Women's Open only and not participate in the PBA Tour Trials?
Yes, you can enter the U.S. Women's Open only.

Can you enter the PBA Tour Trials without entering the U.S. Women's Open?
No. The PBA Tour Trials is not another bowled event. The first four rounds of qualifying for the U.S. Women's Open (32 games) will be used as the PBA Tour Trials for the PBA Women's Series.

After 32 games of qualifying, the U.S. Women's Open makes a cut to the top 16. The PBA Women's Series also takes 16 players. Are they the same bowlers?
Those bowlers who qualify for the Women’s Series will not necessarily be the top 16 from the U.S. Women’s Open. Bowlers who paid $750 for the PBA Tour Trials, are PBA members and end up in the top 16 in the U.S. Women's Open qualify for the PBA Women's Series. It is possible some of the top 16 in the U.S. Women's Open may not have entered the PBA Tour Trials and will not be part of the PBA Women's Series.
