5. I don't want to compete in all of the events, can I only compete in some?
Absolutely. If you only want to compete in the team event with your friends, that is fine. You can also just compete in the doubles/singles event. The only restriction is: If you want to compete in the doubles (or singles), you must compete in the other. They occur at the same squad shift and if you do one, you must do the other.
6. I don't have anyone to be on a team with or have a doubles partner, will you help me find one?
Our Sub Board is up and running. This board has a place for postings of teams or other individuals like you who do not have anyone to bowl this event with, but don't want to miss out. Check out the board, find a partner or a team and make some new friends!
7. How do you know what my average is to put me in the right division?
After March 1, 2008, you will need to visit the USBC Youth Open Championships Web page and download the Average Verification Form. You will need to have an official or coach from your league fill this form out with your current average and then fax or mail it to us. We will then place you in a division accordingly.
8. Do I need a sport membership to compete?
No, the tournament is conducted on a USBC Sport Bowling compliant pattern, but you do not need a sport membership to participate. If you would roll an honor score you would receive the traditional award. However, if you do have a sport membership and roll an honor score you will receive the Sport Bowling award. Sport membership upgrades can be purchased through our membership department at 800-514-BOWL ext. 3151
9. What is the "all-events" category?
All-events is when your scores from team, doubles and singles are added up to create a grand total. You are then ranked among the others in your gender and division according to your all-events score. All-events is $5 to enter, and 100% is put towards scholarships. However, you must buy-in to the all-events category before you throw your first ball of any event.
10. Is all competition bowled on fresh lane conditions?
No, all team competition is bowled on fresh oil, we will not re-oil before any of the doubles/singles shifts. However, keep in mind that if a team shift is not full before a doubles/singles shift you may be bowling on fresh oil or a less broken down pattern. Lane assignments are done randomly and we attempt to create as fair of a playing environment as possible.
11. Do I need to stay in-town for the entire duration of the USBC Youth Open Championships?
No. This tournament is not a qualifying format. You only need to stay in-town for the days you choose to bowl. There are no "finals" at the end of the week. We will post the scholarship winners and final standings on bowl.com about 30 days after the conclusion of the championships.
