The Lindenwood women and McKendree men, the winners at last year's season-ending Intercollegiate Team Championships, were victorious at the recent 48th Annual Midwest Collegiate Championships, claiming the first Tier 1 titles of the 2018-2019 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season.

The event was held last weekend at Bowlero in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, and featured 40 men's teams and 32 women's teams. The format included six traditional games Saturday and 16 Baker games Sunday, with total pinfall determining the winner in each division.

The Lindenwood women easily outdistanced the field at Bowlero as the Lions recorded a wire-to-wire victory, finishing with an 8,927 total. St. Ambrose, the 2017 Midwest Collegiate winner, finished in second place with 8,640, and Robert Morris-Illinois was third with 8,529.

Along with the team victory, a pair of Lindenwood teammates finished at the top of the individual standings. Serenity Quintero led the field with a six-game total of 1,275, a 212.5 average, and was followed by Haley Cummings with 1,243. Savannah College of Art and Design-Savannah's Rebekah Commane was third with 1,241, while Webber International's Caitlyn Johnson (1,222) and Grand View's Hanna Duver (1,221) rounded out the top five.

On the men's side, McKendree finished Saturday's traditional block with a 1,147 game to put itself ahead by more than 130 pins, and the Bearcats continued strong Sunday in Baker competition to grab the top spot with 9,941. St. Ambrose made a huge run during Baker competition, averaging more than 227, to finish in second with 9,794, while Lincoln Memorial was third with 9,771.

Robert Morris-Illinois' Michael Martell fired 238 in his final game Saturday to solidify his spot at the top of the individual standings. The left-hander finished with a 1,416 total, a 236 average. Vincennes' Tyler Perry was second with 1,390, and McKendree's Andrew Lazarchick was third with 1,383. Lincoln Memorial's Jorge Rodriguez (1,362) and Newman's Jake Provenzano (1,360) also earned spots on the all-tournament team.

In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:

- At the Louisville Collegiate Classic in Jeffersontown, Kentucky, the Pikeville men and Martin Methodist women each edged out victories.

- At the Thomas Burris Memorial Classic in Louisville, Kentucky, the Martin Methodist women completed their sweep in Kentucky, while Northwestern Ohio claimed the win in the men's division.

- At the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference No. 1 in Sterling Heights, Michigan, the Indiana Tech men cruised to the top spot, while the Huntington women secured the win.
