The St. Francis-Illinois men and the Wisconsin-Whitewater women took home bracket victories last weekend at the Warhawk Classic in Addison, Illinois.

Hosted by Wisconsin-Whitewater, the event was held at the 84-lane Stardust Bowl and featured 28 men’s and 25 women’s varsity squads. All teams bowled six traditional games and 16 Baker games, with the top eight teams advancing to the best-of-three match-play bracket.

In the men’s division, St. Francis-Illinois entered the bracket as the No. 3 seed behind host and top-seed Wisconsin-Whitewater, which dominated qualifying with a 9,942 pinfall total, and No. 2 Calumet College (9,488). The Fighting Saints opened match play by sweeping No. 6 St. Ambrose by scores of 205-177 and 245-236.

St. Francis-Illinois took care of Calumet in the semifinals, setting up a showdown with Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Warhawks grabbed the lead with a 236-201 Game 1 victory, but St. Francis-Illinois responded with wins of 242-210 and 245-221 to take the match and the title, 2-1.

Individually, Nolan Callan of the Wisconsin-Whitewater JV2 squad led the field with a six-game total of 1,418 (236.3 average). He was followed by Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Steven Monson (1,403), Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Cody Weigel (1,383), St. Francis-Illinois’ Michael Kicmal (1,376) and Quinn Sheehy of Wisconsin-Whitewater (JV1) with a total of 1,358.

In the women’s division, Wisconsin-Whitewater finished qualifying as the fifth seed and dispatched No. 4 Mount Mercy, 2-1, in the first round of match play.
 
In the semifinals, Wisconsin-Whitewater upset top-seed St. Francis-Illinois (202-156, 168-157) and then proceeded to sweep William Penn in the title match (215-179, 190-155).

In the women’s individual standings, St. Francis-Illinois’ Megan Allensworth led the way with a six-game total of 1,306 (217.67 average). She was followed by Robert Morris-Illinois’ Mattie Brandos (1,273), William Penn’s Bailey Palmer (1,263), Notre Dame College’s Alisha Noon (1,257) and St. Francis-Illinois’ Abby Ragsdale (1,244).

In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:


- At the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) No. 3 at Southwyck Lanes in Toledo, Ohio, the Lawrence Tech women and Aquinas men captured conference victories.

- At the Thomas More Classic at Super Bowl in Erlanger, Kentucky, the tournament host Thomas More men and Kentucky Wesleyan women captured titles.

- At the Mustang Invitational at Plaza Bowl in Sioux City, Iowa, Ottawa swept the men’s and women’s division titles.
- At the Northeast Classic at Lodi Lanes in Lodi, New Jersey, the St. John’s men captured the total pinfall victory.

- At the Northeast Conference (NEC) Meet No. 2 at Colony Park Lanes in York, Pennsylvania, Duquesne claimed the victory.
