Florida bowler rolls 300 during debut at USBC Open Championships

LAS VEGAS – Alan Meyers Jr. of Destin, Florida, made sure to leave a lasting impact during his first appearance at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships, connecting for a 300 game during his singles set Monday at the South Point Bowling Plaza.

The 29-year-old right-hander started singles with 12 strikes on the way to the second perfect game of the 2024 event and first in singles competition. He added 210 and 182 to finish with a 692 series.

Curtis Woods Jr. of Santa Rosa, California, rolled the first 300 of the 2024 USBC Open Championships on April 5 during his doubles set.

Meyers may have started his team event Sunday a little slower than he would have liked during his tournament debut, but he was able to get comfortable with one of his favorite bowling balls Monday during doubles and singles.

The bowling ball Meyers used originally was released in the 1980s, but it allowed him to see the right look on the outside part of the lanes.

Meyers had sets of 558 in doubles and 492 in team to finish his first appearance with an all-events score of 1,742.

The 2024 Open Championships got underway Feb. 23 and will run through July 29 at the South Point Bowling Plaza. The tournament is scheduled to feature more than 11,000 teams and 55,000 bowlers making their way to compete in Las Vegas.
