Wisconsin bowler rolls 300 in debut at USBC Open Championships

LAS VEGAS – Making his tournament debut this week at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships, Mitch Zierer of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, put together a perfect performance to record the seventh 300 game at the 2024 event.

After starting his singles competition at the South Point Bowling Plaza on Friday with 203, the 29-year-old right-hander rolled 12 strikes during Game 2. He finished the set with 172 for a 675 series.

Six of the seven 300s at the 2024 USBC Open Championships have been rolled during singles.

Zierer started slow Friday in doubles, but he and his teammates made a move toward the end of the block to try and open up the outside part of the lanes.

He admitted that his first shot in the 10th frame of Game 2 was a little faster than he had hoped, but he was able to mix up the pins to keep his streak intact. Zierer focused on staying slow during his final two deliveries and left little doubt as he entered the tournament’s record book.

Zierer had a 557 series in team and 492 in doubles to finish his tournament debut with an all-events score of 1,724.

The 2024 Open Championships got underway Feb. 23 and will run through July 29 at the South Point Bowling Plaza. The tournament is scheduled to feature more than 11,000 teams and 55,000 bowlers making their way to compete in Las Vegas.
