ARLINGTON, Texas – The inaugural World Bowling Coach Conference kicked off at the International Training and Research Center and top coaches from throughout the world will be in Arlington through the weekend to take part in seminars and discussions.

The conference is being held in conjunction with World Bowling (the World Tenpin Bowling Association), the world governing body for the sport. The ITRC staff, led by Team USA head coach Rod Ross, is hosting the educational conference.

“This is the first world conference for coaches and we’re excited by the reaction and interest we’ve seen from coaches,” Ross said. “We have more than 95 coaches and 28 countries represented. We will have the opportunity to share ideas, and look at how we need to move forward with coaching programs and certification at the international level.”

World Bowling has three zones for bowling – American, Asian and European – and more than 110 member federations.

In addition to the ITRC staff, presenters at the World Bowling Coach Conference include:

  • Onder Gurkan, Chairman of European Tenpin Bowling Federation (ETBF) Educational Committee
  • Juha Maja, head coach of the Bowling Training Center in Olomouc, Czech Republic, and visiting coach in Finland’s Kuortane Bowling Training and Education Center
  • Costas Mitsingas, the first coach from outside the United States to be certified as a USBC Gold coach
  • Del Warren, Vice President of Kegel Training Center and a USBC Gold coach
  • Frank Buffa, USBC Gold coach and founder of Buffa Bowling
  • Mark Buffa, USBC Silver coach

The ETBF, Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON) and Asian Bowling Federation (ABF), along with the United States Bowling Congress and Kegel, a leading company in the industry, are supporting the start of a World Bowling Coach Conference.
