RENO, Nev. - A wobbly 7 pin nearly came between Summer Jasmin of Beckley, W.Va., and her place in United States Bowling Congress Open Championships history, but gravity was on her side and helped her add her name to one of the sport's most exclusive lists.

The 25-year-old right-hander strung together 19 consecutive strikes during her doubles event at the National Bowling Stadium on Sunday, and along the way, she became the ninth woman to roll a perfect game in USBC Open Championships competition.

Team USA member Shannon O'Keefe of Arlington, Texas, was the last to achieve the feat, doing so in her team event at the 2012 tournament in Baton Rouge, La., while Kristine Kropf of Antioch, Calif., became the first to reach the milestone during the 2001 event, also at the NBS.

"I tried to take it one shot at a time, make good shots and stay aggressive," said Jasmin, who made her fourth Open Championships appearance. "I had great teammates telling me to stay calm and take deep breaths."

Jasmin's run included games of 246, 300 and 201 for a career-high 747 series. She and Robert Way of Sanford, N.C., just missed the top 20 in Regular Doubles with a 1,372 total. The father-son duo of Clark and Carl Poelzer of Arden Hill, Minn., leads with 1,465.

Jasmin's 300 game was in jeopardy when her final offering left the 7 pin wobbling. When it finally fell, she immediately was enveloped in a bear hug by teammate Bill Richardson.

"He always picks on me and says I'm his hero," said Jasmin, whose perfect game was the 33rd of this year's Open Championships. "I've been bowling with him for four years, and he's always been there for me."

In fact, it was Richardson who helped her secure a spot on a team just three weeks before their trip to The Biggest Little City in the World.

"Bill bowls with me in Beckley and had friends from North Carolina who had someone drop out," said Jasmin, who also will be bowling in the USBC Women's Championships and USBC Queens presented by Storm later in the week. "I told him I would fill in if they needed me, and I was put into the spot."

Jasmin added a 583 series in singles and a 537 in team for a 1,867 all-events total, besting her previous high by nearly 90 pins.

"It is one of my top accomplishments in bowling," Jasmin said. "To be mentioned in the same class as Shannon O'Keefe and Wendy Macpherson is just a great accomplishment."
